Stars of one of the world's most watched TV shows have had mixed fortunes since leaving hit 90s TV show.
Life's a beach: Stars from hit lifeguard drama
Looking out across her 4,000-acre family estate in a sunny corner of England, the beaches of Santa Monica must seem a lifetime away for former actress AJ Langer.
She had previously starred alongside David Hasselhoff and Pamela Anderson on hit 90s TV show Baywatch .
But just last week AJ took on a new role - as the real life Countess of Devon.
She had fallen for Old Etonian Charles Courtenay after meeting him in Las Vegas, and after his father Hugh died last week he took on his title as the Earl of Devon - making AJ his Countess.
AJ as Caroline Larkin
AJ, who played Caroline Larkin, laughs off her aristocracy, previously insisting that they and their two children who live in Powderham Castle in Devon, are just a “normal family”.
But while AJ, 41, has traded the red swimsuit for a blue-blooded lifestyle, what has happened to the other beloved Baywatch stars?
CJ - Pamela Anderson
Pamela Anderson, 48, was the original Baywatch bombshell with a life more colourful than her character’s red swimsuit. This week she said she had to tell her sons aged 19 and 17 about her infamous sex tape with Tommy Lee before they found it on the Internet.
Pammie, has been a regular on reality TV and has set up her own charity.
MITCH BUCHANON - David Hasslehoff
After playing Mitch Buchannon between 1989 and 2003, David Hasselhoff had mixed fortunes. In the late noughties he was treated for alcoholism after daughter Taylor Ann posted a video online of him in an alcoholic stupor.
But he’s since cleaned up his act, was a Britain’s Got Talent judge in 2011 and is now engaged to Welsh beauty Hayley Roberts, with his own Dave TV show Hoff The Record - and of course all those record sales in Germany.
SUMMER QUINN - Nicole Eggert
Nicole made her name as a curvy lifeguard but has whipped up a new career. The mum of two, 43, left in 1994 and now drives her own mobile ice cream shop to children’s parties and events.
The venture may help her out of financial difficulties – she filed for bankruptcy in 2013 and sold her LA home to pay off debts.
The star admitted that being in Baywatch influenced her to have the first of many boob jobs aged 20. She said: “I was really small chested and there’s these boobalicious women around you. I was awkward so, yeah, I wanted boobs.” In April Nicole had her DDs reduced to a B on an E! TV programme.
MATT BRODY - David Charvet
French-born David played hearthrob Matt for three seasons until 1995. After quitting the beach David, 43, starred in US show Melrose Place before pursuing a music career in his home country. The bilingual star has sold 2.5 million albums and recorded duets with Bryan Adams and Seal.
He now lives in Malibu with wife, Dancing with the Stars host Brooke Burke-Charvet, and their four children. He mixed acting with being a successful property developer.
HOBIE BUCHANNON - Jeremy Jackson
The child star was just 10 when he beat Leonardo DiCaprio to the part of Hobie Buchannon, son of lifeguard Mitch played by David Hasselhoff. But he followed that well-trodden troubled child star path and left the show aged 19 in 1999 after struggling with drug addiction.
He was kicked out of Celebrity Big Brother last year for opening glamour model Chloe Goodman’s dressing gown and received a police caution.
Jeremy, 34, later admitted he had made a “large mistake” saying: “It’s unfortunate, sobering, humbling, and hopefully a great example for myself in the future and for others.”
But in April this year he was arrested in LA for allegedly stabbing a man who identified his attacker as “Hobie”. Jackson was released on bail the same day.
CAROLINE HOLDEN - Yasmine Bleeth
The actress joined Baywatch in 1994 as smouldering lifeguard Caroline Holden, but was kicked off the show just three years later for alleged drug issues and checked herself into rehab.
It was there she met her future husband Paul Cerrito and in 2001 the pair were arrested after a driving incident and police found drugs in their car and hotel room. Bleeth pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine and driving while impaired and was sentenced to two years probation and 100 hours of community sentence.
In 2003 she said: “Consciously trying to stay off drugs is now part of my life and always will be.”
Now aged 46, she is still married to her husband and is said to shun the limelight, preferring to concentrate on raising money and awareness for breast cancer charities after her mother died from the disease.
NEELY CAPSHAW - Gena Lee Nolin
One of “Barker’s Beauties” on the Price is Right, Baywatch was Gena’s big break. She played the show’s resident bad girl Neely Capshaw for three seasons before quitting in 1999 to star in her own show Sheena, and later posing for Playboy.
But in 2009 she was diagnosed with thyroid disorder Hashimoto’s Hypothyroidism and now campaigns for greater awareness of the condition. Now aged 43 and a mum of three, she says she wouldn’t rule out a Baywatch reunion, explaining: “I think it would be great and I’d definitely carve out time for a show that did so much for me. I’m forever grateful to the Santa Monica beaches and of course The Hoff!”
CODY MADISON - David Chokachi
Not many men get to lock lips with Pamela Anderson for four years. But David did just that when, in 1995, he landed the role of Cody Madison, boyfriend of her character, CJ Parker.
In 1997 he was named in People magazine’s top 50 most beautiful people in the world, but soon felt “typecast”. “I’ve got a degree in political science,” he said. “It seems people find it hard to accept somebody can look good and have brains.”
In 2009 he appeared alongside fellow Baywatch actor Jeremy Jackson in VH1’s Confessions of Teen Idol, which saw former young stars try to revive their careers. Living in Malibu and New York, his most recent big movie was 2013’s straight-to-DVD monster sci-fi flick, Atlantic Rim. Chokachi, now 47, also divides his time between environmental campaigning and raising his four year old daughter Brit Madison, with his wife Susan.
STEPHANIE HOLDEN - Alexandra Paul
As married Stephanie Holden she started a doomed relationship with David Hasselfhoff’s character, Mitch. She first appeared in season three and died in season seven in 1997 after being struck by lightning.
Since then Alexandra, now 52, has starred in a string of TV shows and films, including playing Stephanie’s doppelganger in 2003 TV-movie, Baywatch: Hawaiian Wedding, and a guest appearance in drama Mad Men in 2008.
Married to a triathlon coach, Ian Murray, she’s now a competitive endurance athlete as well as a political activist who was arrested numerous times for protesting against the Iraq War, nuclear weapons testing and the motor industry.
Alexandra also campaigns against global over-population and for this reason chose not to have children, even though she knew it would end her family line. “My brother, worried about the world population also, chose a vasectomy at 21,” she says.
LOGAN FOWLER - Jasson Simmons
Playing Logan Fowler in seasons five to seven, the Australian beefcake clashed with his fellow lifeguards as he hated taking orders or working in a team.
After leaving the show in 1997 he starred in London’s West End and made multiple movies, the most famous of which was 2013 cult horror classic, Sharknado.
Jaason, now 45, revealed he was gay seven years ago and is engaged to Irish actor John O’Callaghan. The couple adopted a Ugandan boy called Odin.
Long before he came out publicly, Jaason’s co-stars on Baywatch knew he was gay. Though the 1990s were less tolerant, they didn’t treat him differently. “Everybody knew. I just didn’t speak about my private life,” he said. “I was in a relationship for the whole time, and they were all aware...and it was fantastic. No issue.”
JESSIE OWENS - Brooke Burns
Former child model Brooke played lifeguard Jessie Owens from 1998-2001. But in a twist that could have come straight out of a Baywatch script, tragedy struck in 2005 when Brooke broke her neck diving into her own swimming pool and had to have surgery to insert a titanium plate, rod and screws into her neck.
Brooke, who was divorced from Nip/Tuck actor Julian McMahon - also Danni Minogue’s ex - made a full recovery but her injury made her turn down a role in ITV diving show Splash.
She explained: “Breaking my neck was probably the most devastating thing that I’ve ever been through in my life. It threatened not only my life, but my mobility and my ability to be the kind of mom I want to be to my child.”
Now aged 37, she hosts the US version of quiz show The Chase. She has ruled out donning the famous red Baywatch swimsuit ever again saying: “I have a teenage daughter. She would be like ‘Mom, that’s so embarrassing!’”
