His role as Han Solo put him in control of one of one of the most famous vessels of all time, the Millennium Falcon.
But with the Falcon being a work of science fiction, Harrison Ford was forced to find a more normal mode of transport when he took to the skies in his private helicopter.
The 73-year-old screen legend looked to be in fine form - despite the lack of a light speed drive in the aircraft - and appeared eager to take off as he gave the craft a final pre-flight check.
Arriving at a private airfield in Santa Monica, near Los Angeles, the Star Wars actor looked relaxed and at ease.
Opting for a casual look, the Indiana Jones star donned a grey open-neck shirt and blue denim jeans - rounding his look off with a pair of sturdy leather trainers.
With his silver hair brushed back off of his face, Harrison rounded his laid-back look off with a pair of aviator-style shades.
Stepping onto the tarmac, the star - who is an avid pilot - took a back seat despite doing the pre-flight checks - choosing instead to join his friends as a passenger in the craft. The keen pilot is able to fly both fixedwing planes as well as helicopters.
However, he was lucky to walk away relatively unscathed from a serious aircraft crash in March.
Harrison was piloting his vintage two-seater World War II fighter plane over Penmar Golf Course in Venice, California when he was forced to carry out a crash landing.
In their report investigators for the National Transportation Safety Board revealed that a faulty carburetor meant the engine completely cut out shortly after takeoff, causing the plane to plunge out of the sky.
Despite the catastrophic failure during the most risky stage of the flight, Ford was able to carry out a near perfect emergency landing and survived with a head laceration, and a broken pelvis and hip.
